A Savannah Night Before Christmas

admin, April 24, 2025

Posted December 23, 2024 – Y’all, it’s Dean Burnette here, comin’ at you live from the most bless-ed city south of the Mason-Dixon: Savannah, Georgia. It’s the night before Christmas, and the air is thick with the smell of pralines, Spanish moss, and just a hint of sweet tea vodka (don’t judge, it’s a holiday miracle).

Now, I’m a simple man, but even I gotta count my blessings, especially when they’re as plentiful as grits at a church social. So, gather ’round, children, and let Uncle Dean tell you about the 12 Blessings of a Savannah Christmas, where even Santa trades his heavy coat for a seersucker suit and his boots for some gator shoes.

‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the squares,

Spanish moss was swayin’ like it just didn’t care.

The Bananas fans were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of baseball shenanigans danced in their heads.

Miss Paula Deen had done locked up her butter,

While River Street Sweets’ pralines caused hearts to flutter.

When over at Coffee Fox, what should appear?

But Santa himself, needin’ caffeine to steer!

He toured through our squares, all twenty-two nice,

Past SCAD students’ art projects, each worth the price.

He stopped at the Theater for a quick little show,

Then headed to Tybee, where warm breezes blow.

Our Jewish friends are lighting their menorahs with care,

In this blessed city where faith we all share.

The islands stand guard like sentries so true,

From Wilmington to Skidaway, protecting me and you.

And wouldn’t you know it, as I gazed toward the beach,

The Tybee lighthouse winked, just out of reach.

In this blessed Southern city, where history runs deep,

I’m counting my blessings before I catch some sleep.

The churches and temples all lit up so bright,

Remindin’ us all of our blessings this night.

And I heard him exclaim, as he flew out of sight,

“Bless your hearts, sweet Savannah, you’re doin’ alright!”

So Merry Christmas, y’all, from our moss-draped scene,

Where every square tells a story, if you know what I mean! 🎄🌊🌴

– Dean Burnette, countin’ my Southern blessings like pralines in a box 🎅🌳🍪

Posted March 21, 2025 – Folks, I gotta say, I’m mighty disappointed in a post my friend shared from Rick Steves. Rick Steves’ “glossary,” but I’ve gotta say, as your friend and fellow American citizen, this post has me feeling more disappointed than a farmer in a drought. I reckon…
