Response to Rick Steves’ Post: A Call for Unity and Honest Dialogue

admin, April 25, 2025

Posted March 21, 2025 – Folks, I gotta say, I’m mighty disappointed in a post my friend shared from Rick Steves. Rick Steves’ “glossary,” but I’ve gotta say, as your friend and fellow American citizen, this post has me feeling more disappointed than a farmer in a drought. I reckon Rick Steves’ glossary is about as subtle as a bull in a china shop. While I appreciate the effort to unpack complex political ideas, this list feels less like a thoughtful guide and more like a thinly veiled hit job on half the country. And here’s the thing: we’re better than this.

First off, let’s talk about the elephant in the room. The tone of this glossary is downright divisive. It paints anyone who supports Making America Great Again as some kind of villain out of a 1980s action movie. Now, I don’t know about y’all, but I’ve yet to meet a MAGA supporter who wakes up plotting how to overthrow democracy. Most of us are just hardworking Americans who want to see our country thrive, our families safe, and our freedoms protected. To imply otherwise is not only unfair but downright un-American.

And let’s not ignore the good stuff happening right now. Over the past two months, we’ve seen policies that are putting money back in the pockets of working families, securing our borders, and standing up for American businesses. Sure, it’s not all perfect, but it’s a far cry from the doom-and-gloom picture this post paints.

Now, about this whole “fascism” comparison—come on, y’all. That’s like calling a backyard BBQ a five-alarm fire just because someone burned the burgers. Our Constitutional Republic is the best form of government the world has ever seen. It’s designed to protect our freedoms, not to take them away. And let’s not forget, it’s also built to correct itself when things go sideways. That’s why we’ve got checks and balances, elections, and a whole lot of passionate citizens who aren’t afraid to speak their minds.

But here’s the real kicker: while this post is busy pointing fingers at the so-called “autocrats,” it’s ignoring the real issue—our bloated bureaucracy. The fraud, waste, and abuse in agencies like USAID are enough to make your head spin. These audits are shining a light on problems that have been swept under the rug for far too long. If we’re gonna talk about threats to democracy, let’s start with the unelected bureaucrats who’ve turned our government into a slow-moving mess.

At the end of the day, I’m just saddened that this post feels the need to pit us against each other. We’re all Americans, y’all. Whether you’re MAGA, Never MAGA, or somewhere in between, we’ve got more in common than not. Instead of building vocabularies to tear each other down, let’s focus on the values that unite us: freedom, fairness, and the belief that America is worth fighting for.

So, friend, let’s not let this kind of rhetoric divide us. Let’s talk, listen, and remember that our shared love for this great country is stronger than any political disagreement. After all, as the saying goes, “United we stand, divided we fall.” And I don’t know about y’all, but I’d rather stand tall together.

God Bless America, y’all. Let’s keep her great.
