Courage, Commitment, and the Call to Duty

Gratitude for Those Who Step Up

First things first – I want to tip my hat to Kandiss Taylor, Brian Montgomery, Krista Penn, and Pat Farrell. These four patriots have raised their hands to succeed Buddy Carter as our representative for Georgia’s 1st Congressional District. Now, if you’ve never considered running for office, let me tell you something: it ain’t for the faint of heart. It takes the kind of courage that makes you leave your comfort zone and put yourself out there for all the world to judge. And it’s not just the candidates who sacrifice – it’s their families, their children, their spouses who give up precious time and privacy for the sake of serving this country we love.

To each of these candidates and their families: Thank you. Your willingness to serve is a testament to the American spirit that built this nation from nothing into something so magnificent that people from every corner of the world still dream of getting here.

For that, I am mighty grateful.

The Heart of Democracy: Y’all Showed Up

But here’s what really warmed my Southern heart – the room was full. Not just full of the usual suspects (though bless you regulars, you’re the backbone), but full of engaged citizens who understand that freedom isn’t a spectator sport.

And, was I impressed by the young folks – a whole group of patriots under 35 years old who brought energy, intelligence, and genuine concern for our country’s future. When I see young people who understand what made America exceptional instead of swallowing the poisoned pill of socialism that’s being peddled in our schools and universities, I tell you, it gives me hope that could fuel a rocket to the moon.

These young patriots get it. They understand that you don’t preserve freedom by staying home and complaining on Facebook. You preserve it by showing up, asking questions, working the polls, studying our history, and sharing the truth about what made this nation the shining city on a hill that Ronald Reagan spoke about so eloquently.

One Question That Separated the Wheat from the Chaff

Now, let me get to something that caught my attention like a hook catches a catfish. Somebody asked the candidates if they would vote with other Republicans when they get to DC. Three of the candidates were quick to say “Yes,” eager as puppies looking for approval.

But Kandiss Taylor? She didn’t fall into that trap like a tourist stepping on fire ants at a Georgia picnic.

Kandiss made something crystal clear that needed saying: Not all Republicans in DC are really conservative. Just because someone has an “R” after their name doesn’t mean they’re going to stand up for the Constitution, limited government, and the values that made this country great. She looked that room in the eye and declared she would not go to Washington and become like the political crowd up there.

That, folks, was the best answer of the night.

See, what we need in DC isn’t more people willing to “go along to get along.” We’ve got plenty of those already, and look where it’s gotten us – spending money we don’t have, creating programs our Founders would’ve considered tyranny, and apologizing for American exceptionalism like it’s something to be ashamed of instead of celebrated.

We need someone with the backbone to stand up to the establishment – even when that establishment wears the same jersey. We need someone who understands that principles matter more than being invited to the right cocktail parties.

The Silent Warning: They’re Already Here

Now, I’d be shirking my duty if I didn’t say something that might make some folks uncomfortable: Socialism and communism aren’t just knocking at our door anymore – they’ve been invited in, offered sweet tea, and given a seat at the table.

I’m not being dramatic, y’all. I’m being real.

When I was growing up, we knew communism was the enemy. We understood that socialism – that pretty-sounding poison that promises everything for free – always, always ends in poverty, oppression, and graves. Every. Single. Time.

But today? Today we’ve got elected officials in our own Congress who proudly call themselves socialists. We’ve got schools teaching our children that America is fundamentally bad, that our Founders were villains, that capitalism is evil, and that the government should control everything from healthcare to how much water your toilet can use.

They’re not even hiding it anymore.

The Marxist playbook is being run right in front of our eyes: divide people by race, class, and every other category you can imagine; make people dependent on government; control speech, control education, control healthcare; demonize success; punish achievement; and convince people that freedom is less important than safety or fairness or equity or whatever word they’re using this week to disguise tyranny.

My Cajun mama didn’t raise a fool. I’ve read my history. I know how this story ends when good people stay silent and let the collectivists take over. It ends in breadlines and empty shelves and secret police and people risking their lives to escape to somewhere – anywhere – that still has a taste of freedom.

That’s why elections like this one matter so much.

Why Kandiss Taylor Has My Support

I’ve watched Kandiss Taylor in action – in debates, in committees, in situations where leadership and principle get tested. And folks, she’s got what we need right now.

She’s got the debate skills to articulate conservative principles clearly and confidently. She’s got the committee leadership experience to know how to actually get things done, not just talk a good game. And most importantly, she’s got the backbone to stand alone if that’s what standing for the Constitution requires.

Kandiss understands that being a representative means representing the values and interests of your constituents, not the desires of the DC establishment. She knows that sometimes the most important vote you can cast is “No” – no to more spending, no to more regulations, no to more government control, no to compromising away our freedoms one small slice at a time.

We’re at a crossroads, Georgia. We can send someone to DC who’ll make nice and get along and slowly watch our freedoms erode, or we can send someone who’ll fight – really fight – to preserve what makes America worth fighting for.

The Call to Action

Here’s my challenge to every person reading this: Don’t just vote and think you’ve done your part. Get involved. Show up to meetings like the one I attended last night. Work the polls. Study our founding documents. Learn what made America exceptional so you can teach your children and grandchildren before the revisionists rewrite history completely.

Talk to your neighbors. Share the truth about socialism’s track record – not the pretty promises, but the ugly reality of Venezuela, Cuba, the Soviet Union, and everywhere else it’s been tried.

And for the love of all that’s holy, vote like your freedom depends on it – because it does.

We’re not guaranteed another generation of freedom. Every generation has to fight for it, preserve it, and pass it on. That’s our job now.

In Closing

I’m grateful – genuinely, deeply grateful – for everyone who showed up last night. I’m grateful for the four candidates who are willing to serve. I’m grateful for the young people who give me hope. And I’m grateful we still live in a country where we can have these meetings, ask these questions, and make these choices.

But gratitude without action is just warm feelings. And warm feelings won’t stop the tide of socialism that’s washing over our institutions.

We need fighters. We need leaders. We need people who understand that some things are worth standing alone for.

That’s why Kandiss Taylor has my support.

Now, y’all go do your homework on these candidates. Don’t just take my word for it. But when you do your research, ask yourself this: Who will stand firm when the pressure’s on? Who will vote the way they promised even when it’s not popular? Who will fight for the Constitution even when other Republicans won’t?

Your answer to those questions should guide your vote.

God bless y’all, and God bless the United States of America – may we have the wisdom and courage to keep her free.
