Y’all, with 13 days till Christmas, my heart’s as full as Aunt Joyce’s pumpkin pie! Down here in God’s country, we’re counting our blessings like we count pecans in a praline – one grateful handful at a time. Shoot, even my old dog Myles knows there’s something special in the air when December rolls around. Maybe it’s the smell of them sugar cookies or just the way folks seem a little kinder. Either way, it’s sweeter than sweet tea on a summer day.
As we’re counting down to the birth of our Savior, I wanted to share a little piece of Southern humor with y’all. You see, we folks below the Mason-Dixon line love us some Christmas cheer, but we also love to poke fun at ourselves.
But on a serious note, as we deck the halls and jingle those bells, let’s not forget about our brothers and sisters who might be strugglin’ to make ends meet or findin’ themselves wanderin’ in the wilderness of doubt. Been thinking ’bout them folks who might be having a hard time feeling the Christmas spirit. Whether you’re worried about keeping the lights on or just ain’t sure what to believe in, I want y’all to know something: The Good Lord’s love is like a Southern front porch – there’s always room for everybody.
Heavenly Father, we lift up the poor in spirit, those who are cold, lonely, or hurting. Bless them with Your warmth, Your peace. Let Your light shine on them, bringing hope and joy to their hearts. Touch the hearts of those who’ve yet to believe, our Lord, and draw them near. Dear Heavenly Father, I ask that You bless the poor, the lost, and the non-believers with comfort, joy, and hope this season. Lord, we ask You to wrap Your arms around them that need it most – tighter than Aunt Lee’s Christmas hugs. Send some comfort their way, like a warm biscuit for the soul.
As my mama always said, ‘You can’t get too much of a good thing,’ and for us that good thing is faith, family, and community. So let’s spread some love and kindness like butter on a flaky biscuit! Remember folks, whether you’re rich as a fruit cake or poor as church mice, we’re all God’s children sitting at the same table. And there ain’t no such thing as a stranger at a Southern Christmas – just family you ain’t met yet!
